Five-weeks filled with excitement, volleyball, tours, drama, hand painting and more.

We started the summer vacation off with another exciting Volleyball and Life Skills Program. In our second installment, we built upon the positives from our Easter Camp and continued to develop the areas that needed work to make our summer program better! Our summer program was hosted at the Springer Memorial Secondary School. There we had access to one of the practice courts of the Barbados Volleyball Association.
We refreshed the basic volleyball skills of passing, serving, setting and spiking, and introduced game-like playing situations by demonstrating and allowing the participants to couple the skills as one cohesive movement. We continued to develop soft skills through fun and interactive activities which highlighted areas such as respect, self confidence and self-esteem, communication, teamwork and other soft skills which were developed through various activities we planned for our participants with the dedication of our exciting youth leaders.
Summer Program Activities
Participants were given the opportunity to familiarize themselves with our team, participants and facilities. This was done through a number of energisers and group activities like PrepElite 246 Human Bingo, which allowed the participants to introduce themselves and meet new friends. We then introduced the fundamentals of volleyball, where participants enjoyed the sport through our age appropriate drills and exercises giving our professional coaches the chance to identify the abilities of our participants to craft a program to meet their skill capacity and needs.

During our five-weeks, we invited persons such as – the Kevins’ from Barbados Rugby Association. They introduced the participants to the sport of rugby, this highlighted the importance of communication and teamwork while developing agility and movement skills.

Our creative side led us to explore the art of tie-dying with Young entrpreneur Ashley Mason who shared her knowledge and expertise with us as she engaged the youth in tie-dying cotton t-shirts.
The Drama room came alive with Mustardseed tutor Aunty Asha who through her experience led various games of drama which encourage participants to be confident in speaking an expressing themselves in a respectful and mannerly way true to them.
Our participants enjoyed tours to Chefette Restaurant, Nature Fun Ranch, Splish Splash Water Park, Jump n' Wave and the historic Garrison Savannah. we took a break from the court which led us to explore the daily functions of our favorite fast food restaurant Chefette! Participants had the opportunity to make their very own personalized pizza and still found time for some play park action.
