Week 3 was nothing short of excitement and adventure, from making creative pieces of jewelry, hanging upside-down on the monkey bars in Queen's Park and jumping off dive boards into the crystal-clear pool waters at Sunset Point - Seaside Aquatics.
Bump, Set, Spike! Of course, our week started with our mini volleyball games which truly showcased the competitive side of our campers. Every day during the week, outside of our planned volleyball sessions, after lunch and break, our campers were always eager to battle each other at mini-volleyball games. Apart from the constant bickering between points, they were amazing rallies amongst the teams, which truly highlighted the progress and improvement of skills.
As per usual, Get Into Rugby Barbados was welcomed for yet another session, but this week was the icing on the cake. All campers wear equipped with waste bands and tags which made the session very thrilling. In a series of games, one in particular 'Octopus & Crabs' saw the campers trying to make it across from one side of the pasture without being stripped of their tags.
During the week, the campers dabbled in jewelry making with the assistance of Aunty Addonia. Each camper was given a package of unique beads and sequences to make their very own jewelry. This session saw the focus of many campers as they work diligently into lunch time to finish their pieces which ranged from necklaces, bracelets to earrings; some even decided to create jewelry pieces with remaining beads for their parents.
This week tour was an educational and practical lesson in swimming. We traveled to the north of the island to Sunset Point in St. Lucy, to Seaside Aquatics. The session was led by the instruction of Olympic swimmer Terrance Haynes and swim instructors Aunty Afi and Aunty Tamara. As a group, the campers went through a series of warm up exercises before being placed into 3 smaller groups based on their skill level. The more advance campers who were able to thread water and swim were placed in the deeper end of the pool, whereas the other two groups were stationed towards the swallow part of the pool. The sessions went from blowing bubbles, learning to kick, using the kick board, pushing from the wall, jumping into the pool, jumping into rings and swim races.
To close out week 3 of camp, our classic campers were in awe when a classic car came by. We made and ate our Friday pizza for lunch and enjoyed donuts for dessert.
We Hope to see you there for our final week of camp before the new school term begins!
